8th Grade Flag Retirement Ceremony

The 8th grade History class began the year working in the Civics Activity Book which is comprised of National, State, and Local Studies.  The first unit was on Flag Etiquette and Symbolism of the Flag Folding Ceremony.  Mrs. Kennard noticed the American and Ohio flag that had flown for the past year at CCS was in need of being retired.  Mr. Bush had recently purchased new flags for the school and gave permission for the 8th grade class to properly retire the flags.  So the students went to work!  They began research beyond the etiquette and looked into the proper way to retire the flags in a dignified manner.  Their research led them to follow a video made by Eagle Scouts a few years ago.  The 8th grade class practiced this for a week and on August 30, 2019 they invited Mr. Bush, Mrs. Terri, Ms. Harris and the CCS High School students to attend the planned ceremony.  Mrs. Major supplied the burn barrel, wood and fire.  Each 8th grader participated and together they honorably retired a United States Flag and an Ohio Flag.
